The Living Transmission

An international platform dedicated to the study, documentation and preservation of Japanese martial traditions connected with 武道 (budō), 武術 (bujutsu), 忍法 (ninpō) and 忍術 (ninjutsu), with particular attention to the schools, documents and lines of transmission associated with the 武神館 (Bujinkan).

A living archive for the next generation

The platform gathers historical documents, studies of 流派 (ryūha), translations of 伝書 (densho), primary sources, research, philosophy and materials related to the transmission of Japanese martial traditions.

Our Origins

武風研究所 — Bufū Kenkyūsho

Established 1 February 2021

The platform is a natural evolution of the 武風研究所 (Bufū Kenkyūsho), a research group formed by four Bujinkan Dai Shihan —Alex Esteve, Sean Askew, Alex Meehan and Morla Ballesteros— for the joint study of Japanese martial culture, the ryūha, the densho and the historical traditions connected with the Bujinkan.

Over these years, the group has shared documents, translations, research, bibliographic searches and experiences drawn from the transmission received from 初見良昭 (Hatsumi Masaaki) Sensei and other Japanese teachers.
